Sanctuary Cities

More at www.philosophytalk.org/shows/sanctuary-cities. In the U.S. there are over 500 sanctuary cities-municipalities that limit their cooperation with the federal government’s immigration law enforcement. Although opponents portray sanctuary cities as besieged by crime, empirical data does not bear out such claims. But what actually justifies sanctuary policies in the first place? Do appeals t...

More at www.philosophytalk.org/shows/authority-and-resistance. Authority can refer to people or institutions that have the political power to make decisions, give orders, and enforce rules. But where exactly does authority co...

Why Trust Science
Переглядів 35День тому
More at www.philosophytalk.org/shows/why-trust-science. According to a recent survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, the number of Americans who trust in science is steadily declining. While politicization is partly to blame, another reason may be that the “truths” of science seem to shift endlessly. So why should we trust science? Is it still reliable, even if it doesn’t seem to settle o...

The Philosophical Worlds of Borges

More at www.philosophytalk.org/shows/philosophical-worlds-borges. Argentinian writer Jorge Luís Borges wrote some of the world’s most brilliant, mind-bending, and philosophical stories. Drawing on sources from Europe, India, China, and Persia, these stories tackled topics like time, reality, selfhood, and art. Yet Borges also said "I don’t think ideas are important." So what can we get out of p...

Montaigne and the Art of the Essay
Переглядів 7614 днів тому
More at www.philosophytalk.org/shows/montaigne-and-art-essay. French thinker Michel de Montaigne invented a whole new genre in which to do philosophy: the essay. But in his use of that form, Montaigne repeatedly digresses and contradicts himself. So why did he think the essay was a good medium for philosophy? What impact did Montaigne’s invention have on his own philosophical work, and on the c...

Well that's the problem... they don't contribute anything to the community.
Interesting.
Thats why there so dangerous
This video relies on a foundation of bullshit. The problem wasn't uncertainty. The problem was Fauci and the CDC LIED about facts and evidence.
🙄There's nothing more useless than an activist. If you're so concerned about the environment why don't you get a degree in chemistry or physics or engineering and come up with viable alternatives so people don't have to use these environmetally destructive technologies? But of course not because that takes hard work and effort. There's a lot of pesky math and not so much impotent running of the mouth and pointless virtue signaling.
I just listened to this episode on NPR. It was a fantastic topic!!! Thank YOU for uploading to UA-cam!!! I just subscribed!
And why should Elvis have bothered to "leverage" his fame to help Mama Thornton out of alleged poverty? smh

Tragedy + Time = Comedy
comedy just has to be funny . . . and funny depends on the audience . . . and, audiences vary from place to place but, some humor is more universal than other; some jokes hit with broader audiences . . . the most successful of comics are likely those, meaning there's likely a correlation between successful comics and the universality or breadth of their comedy . . . 👀
its so funny hearing carmella and tony talk against neitzsche when they themselves dont believe in god how can god fearing christians go and kill people left and right carmella is even worse, at least tony is doing the killing, she just pretends she's pure while enjoying all that blood money lmaoooooooo

Lmao we don't live in a democracy we live in a Constitutional Republic
These wealthy white guys sit around the table trying to decipher what is wrong while the underlying narrative of materialism does all the damage. Shallow cultures don't have far to sink. Just read the 1959 essay by Paul Tillich, The lost dimension in religion, and it lays it out quite well.
Corporate socialism is fudalism 2.1 . CEO's are the new Dukes and Earl's of the world
Let’s be real. Israel has infiltrated our nation at every level & owns both parties and the candidates in every election cycle. Until we can discuss this fact without fear of censorship and retribution, the American people will never win.
ONLY the Republicans could come up with this corrupt way of thinking. Corporations and Churches are not individual citizens!! They should NOT be allowed to donate to politicians. But now that they can, it will never go back to right.... just like the corrupt slave-era Electoral College way of electing a President.... allows the minority to rule. But the R will never vote to create a Popular Vote... it's funny - they get elected by popular vote?? Why not the President of the USA?? Makes you wonder???
Very popular democratic candidate lmao
Came here to say this. The fact that he said that illustrates how deluded the left is.

Life isn't absurd at all, Canus just didn't get it.

Dude writes essentially Nazi atheistic blood-and-soil philosophy, dons Nazi uniform, gloats at Holocaust, writes "I am still a Nazi" in his diary. Philosophers: 🤔 hmm...
I wish I could still dislike comments
Is it the podcast or is there a video?
The works of Osho about child rearing in romantic and intimacy sharing with other kids are also interesting. But how immoral. Just like free love, and free thought, all over history, same story, pretty much.
where is the rest of this?
This should be seen by everyone..
The truth is what ever form reality takes doesn't change our position or perspective within it. Accept the things you cannot know, or the weight of uncertainty will crush you from within.
We're told that as AI learns, it will evolve and improve itself at an exponential rate. If that is true, the main thing holding it back is the materials to create new technology, i.e metals, plastics etc etc, which have to be mined, refined and worked, to create machines. Wouldn't it be much more efficient if AI could recreate itself using proteins, amino acids, and a string of code, to direct self building, self replicating "machines". What I'm saying is, are we biological machines? Could DNA and biology itself, be the idea of an "artificial" intelligence, as it looked for news ways to improve on itself? We create machines inspired by biology, but is biology the concept of a "machine"? Then, to take it one step further, did a higher AI actually even build the biological machines, or is this reality all just one of many test simulations/scenarios that a higher AI is running through, in its processor, as it figures out which would be the most efficient and effective way to proceed?
Yaay more Ian! Good obit too.
Porno
Don't wake it then.
Wokism is literally Jew Hatred and Antisemitism like never since the nazis .
Actually..woke... comes from critical theory... from the Frankfurt school.. A Bolshevik Jew think tank.
How did the arab world got away with supporting (still) nazism and pan-arabist nationalism, ethnically cleansing 1.5 million Jews and being extremely antisemitic (IDC they are semitic might as well call it jew hatred), and get all of this sympathy from woke liberals
At least they agree there is Jew hatred
If you keep getting kicked out of every party, it might be your fault
@@theredgoblin562What?
Jewish genocide of Palestinians, also a semitic people, makes it increasingly difficult not to be anti-Zionist. Stop your godless immoral genocide and maybe you won't be encouraging people worldwide to hate you.
The real genocide happened in the arab world where all arab countries ethnically cleansed 1.5 million jewish people of the land.
@@DasParanoi8Projekt When?
Forcing the innocent to pay nonvictims for something that happened to neither of them is not reparations. Government is a manufactured tool. Holding those presently in government responsible for the actions of those in government in the past is like holding the present owner of a used car responsible for the traffic violations of a previous owner.
Ok let’s exclude slavery. How about Jim Crow? -Exclusion from the Homestead Act - Exclusion from the GI Bill - Destruction of black cities- Tulsa, Rosewood, Elaine, Oscarville - Terrorism- KKK, Lynching, unaliving blk leaders, blowing up churches - Highway Commission Act/ Eminent Domain - Reaganomics and Iran Contra/ Dumping drugs in the community Mass Incarceration - Denial of FHA loans I have about seven more things I could list here. It’s not just about slavery. You people need to learn your history and address your deep-seated hatred for the black race. We have found the the money and moral compass to pay other groups reparations, some of whom were not even discriminated against on American soil. Was it fair that black folks taxes went to paying those people? You all are hypocrites. I wish you would just tell the truth and say you don’t want to pay it because you just despise us, vs acting like our claims are invalid or unfair.
This is what genius is. 😃
I'm in awe of your video editing skills.
Where does qualia fit into this ?
maybe there's something the matter with common sense. Philosophers of yore would have no problem saying that.

2pac doesn’t say anything in “Blasphemy” about it “being better to be hated than feared” but other than that not a bad video
Brownie Recipe: INGREDIENTS 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and HOT 1 tablespoon cooking oil, (olive oil or coconut oil are fine) 1 1/8 cup superfine sugar, (caster sugar or white granulated sugar)* 2 large eggs 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 1/2 cup all purpose (or plain) flour 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/4 teaspoon salt INSTRUCTIONS Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan with cooking oil spray. Line with parchment paper (or baking paper); set aside. Combine hot melted butter, oil and sugar together in a medium-sized bowl. Whisk well for about a minute. Add the eggs and vanilla; beat until lighter in colour (another minute). Sift in flour, cocoa powder and salt. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until JUST combined (do NOT over beat as doing so well affect the texture of your brownies). Pour batter into prepared pan, smoothing the top out evenly. (OPTIONAL: Top with chocolate chunks or chocolate chips.) Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the centre of the brownies in the pan no longer jiggles and is just set to the touch (the brownies will keep baking in the hot pan out of the oven). If testing with a toothpick, the toothpick should come out dirty for fudge-textured brownies. Remove and allow to cool to room temperature before slicing into 16 brownies. OPTIONAL ADD INS: Crushed walnuts, peanuts, almonds, pecans, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, chocolate chunks, dried fruit (cranberries, raisins, etc)
Hey, thank you for uploading this kind of knowledgeable video.
